Chapter Fifteen

ENJOYING THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFE

Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

—NEHEMIAH 8:10

As He had so frequently in the past, the Lord came to me in the spirit through a great outpouring of His love. Gently, He prodded me to go for a walk with Him. Saturated in His mighty love, we walked to the mountain place He had brought me to before; the place that has the large stone seat on it.

As we sat enjoying one another’s company, at the spot that overlooks God’s kingdom, a large, white eagle flew to the left of us. Almost immediately, this majestic bird landed on the ground beside us. Its size amazed me. Standing as He spoke, Jesus told me that we were going for a ride on this huge friend of His. Eagerly I climbed on the eagle’s back, and to my great delight, I found Jesus sitting behind me. He explained that He was my rear guard and that He was protecting me from the fiery darts of friendly fire.

The white eagle was strong and majestic, but at the same time, gentle and kind like a dove. Like a child, I buried my face in his soft, elegant feathers. To my amazement, love filled these white feathers. I felt like this eagle understood all the things that concerned me.

As I lingered, with my face comforted by the velvety feathers, I heard: “I understand; I understand; I understand all that troubles you. I know you fear your own weaknesses and your inability to accomplish the things that burn within your heart to do for Me. I understand the frustrations you feel. Come with Me, and I will show you how small all these problems are in the sight of My majesty.”

Flying through the spirit realm was so real that I impulsively hung on for dear life. Jesus sat behind me, with His arms extended to His sides, thoroughly enjoying the ride. While the wind blew against Him, He laughed heartily and encouraged me to sit up with Him so that I could fully enjoy the ride on this wonderful, white eagle.

My fear of falling was causing me to lean over and hold tightly. This was not giving me the freedom I needed. Carefully I let go of the great eagle’s strong neck and sat up straight. Once I sat up, I leaned against Jesus and extended my arms out to the sides, just like He was doing. The wind was warm as it blew against me. Laughing so hard that tears came to my eyes, I began to realize that my Friend was teaching me a valuable lesson, one that I would not quickly forget.

Leaning over He whispered in my ear: “This is how I want you to go through your life. Trust that I am behind you and that I will keep you from falling. As you relax and enjoy the ride you are on in your life, you will feel the warmth of My presence.
